Just posting because I can

Debbie and I were looking for old pictures, so I came over here. Just wondered what I had written, etc. See you next year.

Still alive!

OK, over two years. Been busy. What can I say. I no longer have bows in my hair. I am over 40 (getting close to 42). Just thought I would pop in and say howdy.

Yes, I am still here.

Most of you know (but for those that don't)...

I took a job as a College Instructor a few weeks ago.  It was sorta sudden, so everything happened very quickly.  Within a matter of a few weeks, we went from living in Houston where I taught 11th grade English to living in a country house between Brenham and Bellville and I commute to Brenham (about 18 miles) where I teach English at Blinn College.

I really love teaching at Blinn.  I like the atmosphere and the job.  My colleagues are wonderful.  Just all around a good move, I think.

Honestly, I didn't enjoy teaching in the public school system.  The kids were fine (for themost part), but I just didn't like the job.

The kids are loving the country life.  They have already been able to play outside more in the past couple of weeks than they did the whole time in Houston.  Joey is a bike-riding fiend.  Tommy rides his, too.  Becky was riding her bike a lot, but blew out a tire.

We went and saw Paul Blart - Mall Cop last night and it cost about half the price of going to a movie in Houston.  Seriously.  We bought tickets and snacks for what tickets cost in Houston.  That was too cool.  Oh, and we all liked the movie a lot, too.  Very funny and appropriate.

Anyway, thats about all thats going on for now.  I will drop a line in a couple of months, I am sure....

Well it has been a long time since I posted anything.  Mostly that is because there isn't much to post.  I get up, go teach and come home, then do some online adjuncting then go to bed and start over.  So not much to report to anyone.

The kids are doing well.  Debbie is doing good, too.

We went after church today and spent the afternoon with Jerry and Janet.  For those that don't know, Jerry was my mom's husband when she died.  After that, he met Janet and I got to perform the wedding ceremony for them.  They  have been married about 10 years now.  He is from New York, originally, though he has been in Texas for a long time.  He is a Giants fan, so he had me come over and watch his team destroy the Cowboys.  That was lots of fun. (sarcasm there, if you didn't catch it).

Otherwise, it is just the same ole same ole.

So Debbie put up some pictures of our house and other hurricane affected areas.  You can see them at her site.

That also means that we are now back home.  Power was restored, so we headed back to get everything cleaned up.  It looks like I won't go back to work until the middle of next week sometime at the earliest.  This place is still a mess and most people do not have electricity yet.

Our house only had minor damage.  Our landlord came over yesterday evening and put a tarp on the roof where it was exposed.  Hopefully that will keep out any moisture that may decide to fall.  Overall, we were very blessed to have a house that wasn't affected more.

You can see the massive devastation that was caused by the hurricane all over town.  I am sure glad we left, even though I didn't really want to at the time.  Debbie was right... again...

One funny thing - sort of.  Our landlord is Asian.  When he came over yesterday, we started talking a little bit.  I asked him if they had evacuated and he said, "yes."  I told him that I had wanted to stay, but Debbie talked me into leaving.  He looked at me like I was crazy and said, "I was boat people.  I know storms.  If they come, I am leaving."  Then he laughed.

Anyway, we are all safe and sound back in our house in Houston.  Today we get to go clean up the yard a little bit.  Lots of debris that needs to be stacked for the cleaning crews.
